|briankennedy.net - wildlife page one|
The wildlife pages were the last I wrote for this site. This is the area where most of the photos are concentrated, so it was a big job.
I shoot with both 35mm and large format cameras, but all of my wildlife photos were taken using 35mm equipment. For wildlife shooting, portability and the ability to use fast telephoto lenses is paramount, so using a larger format does not make much sense. While a large format shot of a wild bear would be great, most bears won't sit patiently while you focus on the ground glass with a loupe and then take a two second shot at f/32.
Part of the fun of shooting wildlife is the difficulty. You typically do not have time to find the perfect vantage point, set up everything just right, and shoot on your own schedule. You have to find your subject, quickly situate yourself to minimize background distractions and maximize the light, compose the photo quickly, and hope something interesting happens. All the while making sure you don't frighten the animal away by your presence. Not so easy when you have a big lens and tripod.
Currently, there are 122 shots on the wildlife pages.
