Black-crowned Night Heron I did not get to shoot the Black-crowned Night Herons that spend the spring at the National Zoo much this year. We were too busy preparing to move, that I did not have much time for photography. However, I did make it up to the Zoo once, and found that the birds had choosen the same trees as the prior year. That the birds chose the same location was good news for photographers, because there is a raised walkway adjacent to one of the trees, making it easy to shoot directly into the branches. That's how I was able to get nest shots last year. This bird was looking for nesting material. He eventually broke off the thin stick visible in the lower part of the frame and brought it back to his mate. LENS: 500/4 + 1.4x | FILM: Fuji Provia 100F | EXPOSURE: f/5.6 at 1/?" | DATE: 07/02 |
