Black-crowned Night Heron

Credit Arthur Morris for this shot. I took it, of course, but it is a good shot because of his instruction. Artie is a Canon contract photographer, and probably the most famous bird photographer in North America. He came to Washington, DC to promote his photography exhibit at the National Zoo and to shoot the Black-crowned Night Herons while he was here. He showed me where to get the best light and how to follow through when shooting birds in flight. This was my favorite of many, many flight shots I took that morning, a male Heron with nesting material returning to the nest.

Artie is a photography instructor as well as a photographer. If you are interested in attending a photography seminar and like birds, I highly recommend you check his schedule of "Instructional Photo Tours" at
