Port of Piraeus

Piraeus was the main port of Greece in classical times, and is still one of the Mediterranean's busiest ports. This was taken near sunrise on the deck of our ferry as we waited to leave Athens for Santorini. The dark gray background is a dense layer of clouds in the distance, making the morning sun "spotlight" the boats. Our ferry never left that morning, and we had to take an airplane instead. All of the ferries were cancelled, after a terrible tragedy the night before, when one sank.
