Great Falls, Virginia

Great Falls National Park is a beautiful area, and is very near DC. The first time I visited I was amazed that a large natural area like this was so nearby. When you are there, you would never guess you are near the city. This shot was taken during particularly high water, after we had several days of rain. In fact, it was raining when I took this. I got soaked!

I used the teleconverter on this shot even though I did not need the extra reach, but I had it on earlier and didn't take it off because I wanted the extra stop of aperture and didn't feel like taking the lens off the camera in the rain. The mist and the diffraction caused by the tiny f/45 aperture made this a bit soft, but overall I really like the look, especially in B&W.
