Snowy Egret The Snowy is much smaller than the Great Egret, and is easily identified by its yellow feet. Snowy Egrets are among my favorite birds. At Chincoteague NWR, where this was shot, they often stay in an area on the southeast side of the road to Tom's Cove. This is also a good area to see horses early in the day. These moss-covered branches are along a path to the tip of the island. I tried to get closer, but this bird did not want to be bothered, and took off while I was still pretty far away. The out of focus vegetation at the bottom is the top of some marsh grasses, and I considered cropping it out, but I could not bear to part with any of the mossy branches, so I left it in.
