Memorial Bridge

Taken earlier the same night as the shot from on the bridge, this one is basically the same idea except with the Washington Monument in view and without the cars.

A couple of things to note. First, the long exposure flattens out the waves in the Potomac. A similar effect can be seen on the Pacific Ocean waves in this shot from Monterey, California. Second, the star points of the street lamps are caused by using a very small aperture. They are more defined than in the last shot because this was taken with a wide angle, the other with a telephoto. This diffraction from point light sources works better with wide angles. For really cool stars, use an ultrawide, like the Eiffel Tower shot.
