Mount Vernon, Virginia

One of the employees of Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, showing me how they cooked some of the food of the period. These are hoe cakes -- corn meal fried on the blade of a hoe. They don't taste bad, if you can get over the blandness and burnt bits of wood.
