Whitetail Fawn

I have probably eight or ten rolls of deer that I shot during two mornings at the Big Meadows area of Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. I put eleven shots from them on this web page. It was not until I began writing the description for this shot that I realized that the majority of the shots I chose to post are of fawns. I guess they are just cuter than the older deer, so they catch my eye more.

This was taken on a bright, sunny morning. The early morning light casts an appealing reddish-yellow glow over the scene. While the light was nice, it was also fairly hot, and the deer did not seem to stay out nearly as long as they did on the rainy, overcast morning a few weeks earlier. They almost immediately headed out of the sun into the shelter of the trees. There were no deer at all after about 8:30 a.m.
