Black-necked Stilt

Black-necked Stilts are very common at Bolsa Chica Preserve in Southern California. They are rare on the East Coast, where I live, so it was a real treat to see so many in California. In fact, before heading to California, the first time I had seen Stilts was during my trip to Hawaii (though I did not include my photos of Stilts in Hawaii on these pages, the Stilts were in the same location as my photos of the Mourning Dove and the Pacific Golden-plover, which I did include here).

Note that this is probably a female, more brown than black on its back. The males have black backs.
