Killdeer are interesting birds. They are generally intolerant of people, and will make a loud cry when agitated, scaring away all the other birds in the area. No fun for a photographer. They also will feign a broken wing to lure predators away from their nests. Luckily, this one ignored me as it walked around the mud near the entrance to Bolsa Chica.

Killdeer have red eyerings -- it is a common identifying characteristic that all birders recognize. This one has a yellow eyering, which confused me, but apparently the rings are yellow when they are very young.
